Contest Information

Contestants

The Wahoo Country Music Show currently has three different contests for performers. They are all unique to our festival in one way or another and are intended to entertain the audience and to let competitors have a good time and meet new people while doing it.

The Band Scramble is held on Saturday afternoon. You have to register in person by noon on Saturday of the event to participate. Names are randomly drawn from a hat and put together in groups of 4 or 5 depending on the number of participants. Our Band Scramble is unique because we don’t know what instruments the performers play. It is quite possible that you’ll get four bass players in the same group. (It has happened)

In the past ten years we have found that the majority of musicians are very talented and play more than one instrument. We have had some great groups each year and everyone that has participated has had a lot of fun.

It’s amazing how much creativity there is when like minded people work together on a project. Each group performs four songs with no time limit to the best of their ability.

Cash prizes to the top three groups total over $400.00.

The Dance Contest is for couples dancing only. Each contestant will dance a Waltz, Polka, Two-Step, and Jitterbug. This contest is unique to the Wahoo Country Music Show and the audience seems to really enjoy it. They even help the judges determine the winners by yelling and cheering as their favorite couple dances by.

This contest is held on Saturday night at the Danciest Dance of The West. Winners receive personalized Wahoo Country Music Show jackets, shirts and T-Shirts as well as cash.

The Songwriters Contest has been a challenge for the contestants. Some of them have stayed up all night long to get their song written. Each contestant has 22 hours to write a song based on a phrase that is announced at 1:00pm Saturday.

What makes this contest unusual from others is that all contestants write their song using the same phrase as everyone else. We’ve really had some great ideas written and look forward to next year's contest.

If you have any suggestions for song phrases, e-mail them to us.
